Hi Dave,

I really enjoyed reading your post and your interview, and it aligns closely with my own (far more limited) experiences. I have posted a detailed reply comparing my own experiences self-publishing on Lulu and now working with a publisher here:

Hear, Hear! It costs $45 Canadian to buy a Pragmatic or a similar computer programming book from a Canadian bookstore. The same book in electronic format from Pragmatic programmers costs $22 US (about $20 Canadian). Plus your books are better quality, are delivered in real time and provide far better value. I only wish more publishers would follow your lead. Keep it up!

Hi Dave. You're absolutely right about complacency creeping in during good times. I've been involved in the computer book industry since 1983 and I've seen at least a couple spikes as well as a few valleys since then. It's safe to say we're at a bit of a crossroads right now and the winners will be the ones who figure out how to adapt. You guys are doing a lot of great things at Pragmatic and the way you've raised the bar helps make all of us pay more attention, be more focused on customer needs, etc. Congrats and keep up the great work!
